Lab Rat

So I'm taking part in this study thing where they are researching the effects of like this thing called ab lib which tells when you're full i think.

Anyway what happens is that the night before you go in you can't have anything to eat after 8pm which is pretty rats since I love eating. You eventually get to eat when you get to the place at like 8:30 in the morning which means I have to wake up at like 6am and battle through that beast rush hour working man/woman traffic.

So you get to the place hungry as hell anticipating the meanest breakfast ever and they give you a bowl of hazelnut, vanilla yoghurt and a glass of water ajdhfkahskdfhakshdkfhasf and that's it until lunch time which is at like 12. Between finishing breakfast and lunch time they stick you up in a room with a bed, a desk and a t.v. which is all good since they have wireless, but the catch is that they come in every 15mins and you have to fill out these questionnaires. Also there is a communal lounge where you can chill with the other participating lab rat, which reminds me that you usually do it with one other person.

So lunch time comes around and they give you so much food that it would probably be impossible to finish unless you're a hungus beast. I forgot to mention before that when you eat you are moved to the eating room where you sit in separate cubicles to the other guy who you are not allowed to communicate with during the eating period. So you pretty much sit in the room for 30mins hearing the other guy eat, so I could eat loud as like "NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM" or fart and he wouldn't be able to do anything hahahahaha. After lunch you sit around in your room for a further 2 hours then you can gap.

You do this four times and then they give you around $300 including petrol money WOOHOO!!!! (time for gears).................. plus you get free feeds and your helping out the human race which is the important part.

What Grinds My Gears:

Traffic: Wow I hate traffic its the wost thing ever. Why cant everyone just drive at the same speed and not crash into each other? It turns my 20-30 min drive to uni to a 1-2 hr drive ajhsdjkahsjkdajkbjcbasdfddasfdl. Also why cant everyone just carpool? Nearly everyone stuck in traffic is alone in their car, It's way "funner" sitting in traffic when you got boys in your car wildn' out like there's no tomorrow.

Martin's Music Vol. 2

I went along with some friends the other night to watch a New Zealand production of the Broadway musical, Rent. But I'm still waiting in some photos so i'll have to hold off on writing a proper blog on my Rent experience until I get them. So for now I thought i'd blog about some more music that i'm diggn' at the moment

Mos Def - Auditorium (Feat. Slick Rick)
I also found this clip of Mos Def breaking down Auditorium, how the song came about and what he was thinking when he wrote the lyrics. The way he explains his lyrics makes the meaning seem really clear, well the part he explains anyway, check it out:

The Roots ft. Erykah Badu - You Got Me

Common - Everywhere
Probably one of my favourite tracks off Universal Mind Control, he's got a concert in Auckland next month and i'm still in the midst of debating with myself whether I should go or not as the concert is in the middle of my exams and i'm pretty sure I have an exam on the day. Sigh

Sara Bareilles

With martin posting up what he's been jamming to lately, it has inspired me to share the music which I've been listening to as well.

Stumbled across Sara Bareilles while visiting a friends blog where she used her song "gravity" as the background music.

Whether you are in or out of love, her songs are all quite touching and pretty mean to chill to, or get you into the mood for study.

Martin's Music

A few jams that i've been jamming to lately

Corinne Bailey Rae - Paris Nights / New York Mornings
Wow, such a soulful, chill song. A slightly funky beat paired with Corinne Bailey Rae's beautiful voice makes this song good to have on repeat while working/studying. I must remember to buy her latest CD at some point.

Wu-Tang Clan-Can It Be All So Simple

The Fugees - Fu-gee-la
I really like the beat of this song and Lauryn's voice is so powerful.

Nirvana - Come as You Are (Live Acoustic)
A song i'd heard a number times during my younger years, but only really started appreciating recently. Probably because my musical taste is more open than it once was.

Theres so much good music out there
